The 184 parks operated by the East Baton Rouge Parish Park Systems, known as BREC, offer parks and recreation opportunities and amenities for the entire family.
BREC operates over 200 athletic fields, 60 recreation centers, seven swimming pools and seven golf courses. These Baton Rouge parks and recreation facilities focus on open spaces and quiet places. Its parks and nature preserves include more than 33 miles of paved and gravel hiking, running and walking trails.
Standout BREC parks include:
- Farr Park Equestrian Center — an indoor arena, camps and miles of trails put enjoyment of horses within reach of local enthusiasts
- BREC Extreme Park — a BMX track, skateboard park, rockclimbing wall and a 333meter velodrome promise thrills for X Games types
- Greenwood Community Park — the 309-acre park in the city of Baker includes a lake for fishing, canoeing and kayaking, waterside balcony café, golf course, discgolf course, paths for running and walking, splash pad and outdoor amphitheater
BREC summer and holiday day camps keep kids busy. Camp themes run a gamut from art and astronomy to swamp ecology and theater. During its popular zoo camp, children go behind the scenes at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo to assist in the feeding and care of zoo animals. BREC provides opportunities for challenging and introductory activities; whether you are alone, with friends or with family, you can find plenty of fun with the many Baton Rouge parks and recreation programs.
