Baton Rouge has a thriving running community that novices and seasoned runners can enjoy. One of the area’s most popular running events is a casual, weekly 5K run that is held downtown on Tuesday evenings. Hosted in conjunction with Happy’s Irish Pub, runners – and non-runners – are welcome to hang out afterword for a time of community fellowship. The event welcomes everyone, including those who prefer to walk or watch from the sidelines. Dogs are also invited to join in the fun.

The city also plays host to a variety of more formal running events year-round. The Color Run has become a popular activity throughout the world and makes a stop in Baton Rouge, where residents – and many travelling from out of town – enjoy the spirited 5k run. The event is named after the color stations that runners encounter on their more-than 3-mile journey; as runners pass through each station, they are doused with colorful powder that adds flair to their Color Run t-shirts, headbands and other gear, as well as their skin and hair. When participants reach the finish line, their clothes have transformed from plain to multi-colored.
