Star- and planet-gazers of every age find plenty to do at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) in downtown Baton Rouge. Housed in a historic railroad depot on the banks of the Mississippi River, LASM features a planetarium and a 60-foot domed theater, which presents sky shows, movies and mesmerizing visual music shows. Its galleries showcase permanent and traveling art exhibitions. Highlights include the Ancient Egypt Gallery, where a mummy rests in a recreated rock-cut tomb.

LASM focuses on hands-on, educational fun for children. Its Science Station includes a kid-friendly gallery with interactive exhibits and games that invite children ages 7 to 12 to jump into scientific discovery at their own pace. Learning stations include a Whisper Dish Plasma Ball, ball maze and fossil dig. Discovery Depot engages explorers as young as 6 months with puppets, a playhouse and a tree house for climbing and play, and the museum’s monthly First Sundays program offers weekend art programs for children ages 6 to 12.
